I was scrolling through the news the other day and a headline just stopped me in my tracks. It was about the new changes being proposed to the U.S. Endangered Species Act, and my heart just sank.
This act has done so much good, saving nearly 300 species from being lost forever since the 70s. It’s been a critical safety net. Every time I see a piece of stunning nature photography, I’m reminded of the incredible biodiversity we’re so lucky to have, and how fragile it all is.
Now, the government is considering modifications that would allow economic issues to be weighed when deciding whether to protect a species. It just feels like we’re moving backwards, putting a price tag on irreplaceable animals and plants. It’s a lot to take in, and honestly, it’s worrying.
