For a long time, I thought the problem was me. I’ve been navigating chronic pain for years, and the constant cycle of trying treatments that didn’t work was so incredibly frustrating. You start to feel like you’re making it up, or that you’re just not trying hard enough.
Then I started digging into the research and realized a pretty radical truth: women’s bodies experience pain in a fundamentally different way than men’s. We often have a higher likelihood of chronic conditions, and many standard painkillers just don’t have the same effect on us. It was a huge moment of validation. The problem wasn’t me; it was the one-size-fits-all approach.
It’s a complicated and deeply personal challenge, and finding what works is a journey. On good days, just getting outside with my camera for some quiet nature photography can make a difference. But the bigger fight is for better understanding and treatment. I’ve been wanting to write about this for a while, so I put together some thoughts and resources. If this sounds at all familiar, you can find it at the link in bio.
